Lakeview 4th Graders Love Science and Math!
Summer Reading List for Future Fourth Graders
![]()
The fourth graders are currently learning about and researching biomes in science. Each class is creating a colorful mural of a different biome. The murals will be displayed at the Festival of the Arts in April.

Everyday, the students are working hard to improve their math skills. In the near future, students will be able to bring home “Mad About Math” Materials. “Mad About Math” consists of several different class packages containing math books, games, manipulatives, and more for the whole family to enjoy. Check out these great websites!
They’re a fun way to help your child improve his or her math skills:

In addition to these math sites, we have included the directions to a fun game that students can play at home with a parent, sibling, or friend. This game is designed to help students with their basic multiplication and division facts.
“Math Facts Match”
You will need 2 players for this game. Cut about 50 index cards in half. Use a blue pen to write a different multiplication fact in the upper right-hand corner of each card; then use a red pen to write a product that doesn’t match that fact in the lower left corner. Be sure that each fact has a matching product on another card.
To play, Player A draws 10 cards from the deck and places each one diagonally. Then he gives five more cards from the deck to himself and five cards to his partner, placing the remaining cards facedown in a pile. In turn, each player draws a card from the pile and tries to match it or one of the cards in his hand with one of the ten cards lying face-up. (He cannot match two cards that are in his hand). If he makes a match, he earns one point. If he is unable to make a match, the player puts the drawn card in his hand and says “Pass.” The player with the most points when all cards have been played wins. Try programming cards with division facts for a whole new game!
Enjoy all of these new ways to make learning fun!
