LAKEVIEW SCHOOL
CODE OF CONDUCT
RULES AND CONSEQUENCES
GUIDING PRINCIPLES:
1. I have a right to be safe in school. This means that no one will hit me, kick me, push me, pinch me, or hurt me.
2. I have a right to be happy and to be treated with respect. This means that no one will laugh at me, hurt my feelings, or use unkind language toward me.
3. I have a right to learn and perform in a quiet, orderly classroom. This means that no one will shout, yell, scream, or make loud noises.
4. I have the right to expect that my personal belongings will be respected. This means that no one will take, damage, or destroy the property of others or that of the school.
5. The teacher (and other adults in the school) has the right to give directions and expect that they will be followed. This means that I will be respectful and cooperative with the people of our school. This also means that I will do my best work and show my best behavior.
GENERAL RULES:
WARNINGS:
Students first receive a verbal warning of an offense. This is recorded as a verbal warning by the teacher.
For the next offense, the student’s parent(s) will be notified by the teacher, by phone or written note, and demerit points may be assigned. The administration office is notified that the student should have one or more demerits recorded in the central file. The number of demerits shall be decided by the administrator and the teacher depending upon the nature of the infraction.
When a child receives:
3rd DEMERIT - The parent will be notified by phone or letter.
6th DEMERIT - The parent will have to accompany their child to school and meet with the administrator and a member of the discipline committee.
8th, & 10th DEMERIT - A form will be sent home to notify parent, and additional conferences may be required.
CONSEQUENCES:
ACCUMULATION OF FIVE (5) OR MORE DEMERITS MAY RESULT IN SUCH PENALTIES AS DETENTIONS, IN-SCHOOL OR OUT-OF-SCHOOL SUSPENSION, OR LOSS OF PRIVILEGES SUCH AS PARTIES, FIELD TRIPS, AND OLYMPIC DAY, AS DEEMED APPROPRIATE BY THE ADMINISTRATION. STUDENTS MAY BE SUBJECT TO APPROPRIATE DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS AT ANY TIME, REGARDLESS OF THE NUMBER OF ACCUMULATED DEMERITS.
*Accumulation of student demerits will be kept on record in the Central File, and will be available to the staff, so that everyone can see current point accumulations.
(Please tear off this section, sign and return to your child's teacher.)
