Computers @ Lakeview

The computer program at Lakeview recognizes the computer as a powerful tool. Students are encouraged to "learn by doing" in graphics, word processing, math drill and practice, and life simulations.  Instruction follows the constructionist method of teaching.

The Students at Lakeview School have a state of the art computer lab to work with. Twenty-six Pentium 4 workstations with 17 inch monitors are connected via fiber optic cable to T-1 Lines. All students have internet access. One workstation is connected to a overhead display which projects on a large screen.

In grades 1 and 2 students learn to save and retrieve files, choose printers from the network and print in color or black and white. Software includes KidPix and Kidspiration.

Third, fourth, and fifth graders learn the basics of programming using the LOGO computer language. They also take "keyboarding" lessons using Type to Learn.  They also use the software "Student Writing Center" to develop graphic skills in layout and design.

Third fourth and fifth graders all work with "MicroWorlds" an interactive authoring systems that uses the Logo Computer language.
All students receive instruction in word processing computer functions.
